Nordex targets US expansion after surge in second-quarter orders By Danny Callaghan and Kira Britten
July 29 (Reuters) - Onshore wind turbine maker Nordex NDXG.DE is targeting further U.S. expansion after securing significant orders, signalling renewed momentum in a market that has contributed relatively little to the German group's growth in recent years.
Chief Executive Jose Luis Blanco said on a conference call on Wednesday that Nordex planned to build on its "healthy" U.S. pipeline and would double output at its Iowa facility in the coming months, reaching nominal capacity early next year.
The Hamburg-based company reported earlier this month that it received around 800 megawatts (MW) of U.S. orders in the second quarter, compared with 772 MW in the whole of 2025.
While North America remains a relatively small contributor to earnings, Blanco reiterated Nordex's ambition of regaining the roughly 20% U.S. market share it once held.
Nordex sees growing U.S. electricity demand as a supportive backdrop for investment in new power-generation capacity.
"Electricity demand in the U.S. is structurally increasing, driven in part by electrification and the expansion of data centres," a spokesperson for Nordex told Reuters.
He added that this increase supports investment in renewable energy, including onshore wind, and is part of a broader, multi-year market trend.
"The U.S. is currently not a major contributor to earnings," said Leon Muehlenbruch, an analyst at mwb research. He noted that this could change significantly over the next few years if demand continues to accelerate.
