WASHINGTON, April 29 (Reuters) - A coalition of business groups, rival railroads and organized labor on Wednesday said they oppose Union Pacific’s UNP.N proposed $85 billion merger with Norfolk Southern NSC.N, a day before the railroads are set to file a revised application.
The coalition, which includes the American Chemistry Council, the American Farm Bureau Federation, Teamsters Rail Conference, BNSF Railway, CPKC Railway, Alliance for Chemical Distribution, National Industrial Transportation League and Vinyl Institute and argues the deal will reduce competition and increase costs for manufacturers, farmers and consumers.
