OSLO, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Norwegian Air NAS.OL said on Thursday its passenger volume declined in January, while the budget carrier's capacity utilisation rose from the same month last year as the company operated fewer flights during the annual low season.
Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) were down 2% year-on-year, while the operated capacity was 7% lower, boosting its utilisation by 3.8 percentage points to 85.8%, Norwegian said.
"Bookings for the remainder of the winter are looking encouraging and are ahead of the levels at the same time last year," CEO Geir Karlsen said in a statement. "Travel to warmer destinations is particularly popular at the moment."
The company's regional carrier Wideroe saw a 7% decline in revenue passenger kilometres compared to January of last year.
