European satellite project 'is a threat to us', OHB CEO tells Boersen-Zeitung paper

BERLIN, Oct 24 (Reuters) - German satellite maker OHB OHBG.DE said plans for a new European satellite giant led by Airbus AIR.PA pose a threat to its business.

"This is a threat to us," OHB CEO and majority owner Marco Fuchs told Germany's Boersen-Zeitung paper in an interview published on Friday.

According to Fuchs, the justification for the European satellite alliance is merely a pretext. "We will work to ensure that the merger is structured in such a way that it continues to enable competition," said Fuchs. He left open whether this could also include legal action, according to the paper.

The comments come after Airbus, France's Thales TCFP.PA and Italy's Leonardo LDOF.MI agreed to merge their satellite operations, aiming to challenge Elon Musk's Starlink and boost European sovereignty in space.
