** Thomasville, North Carolina-based less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier reports Q1 EPS of $1.19, beating consensus by 5 cents, per LSEG data

** Rev in qtr fell ~6% y/y to $1.37 bln, inline with analysts' expectations

** Decrease in rev primarily due to 6.3% decrease in LTL tons per day partially offset by increase in LTL rev per hundredweight, co says in statement

** "While we were encouraged to see signs of improving demand during the first quarter, there continues to be uncertainty with the economy" - CEO Marty Freeman
