Australia's Omega Oil & Gas rises on gas discovery in Queensland project

** Shares of Omega Oil & Gas  OMA.AX  surge as much as 24.4%
to A$0.28, set for best session since April 13, if gains hold
    ** Co confirms gas discovery at its Canyon-2 well in
Queensland
    ** "Results to date have exceeded expectations with initial
log porosities averaging greater than 9%," says OMA
    ** Stock hits highest since April 21
    ** More than 8 mln shares change hands, compared with the
30-day average of about 2.5 mln shares 
    ** OMA shares up ~28.6% YTD, as of last close
