ROUNDHILL BETS ON MEME STOCKS, BRINGS BACK "MEME" ETF
Roundhill Investments is giving another shot to an exchange traded fund (ETF) that tracks the retail-driven meme trade in bid of tap the meme frenzy with retail favourite Opendoor Technologies as its biggest holding.
The product will trade under the ticker 'MEME' on the NYSE, currently holding $250,000 in assets under management and is an actively-managed fund.
Its current biggest holding is residential real estate platform Opendoor Technologies OPEN.O, a stock which has been popular among mom-and-pop traders since July and has jumped almost 500% so far this year.
Bullish posts on X.com by a portfolio manager of Canada-based hedge fund has been one of the reasons for the eye-watering rally in Opendoor shares.
Roundhill had shuttered its initial MEME ETF endeavor in November 2023 due to flagging investor interest after launching during the height of the meme crazy in 2021, where retail investors banded together in online forums like Reddit and sparked rallies in highly-shorted names including GameStop GME.N.
A rally with a similar play-book was recorded in July this year, with shares of a few companies including donut chain Krispy Kreme DNUT.O and action camera maker GoPro GPRO.O recording wild moves as retail traders joined the fray.
Other top holdings of the product include hydrogen fuel cell maker Plug Power PLUG.O, data center operator Applied Digital APLD.O and quantum computing firm Rigetti Computing RGTI.O.
