Australia's Origin Energy says July data breach exposed customer bank, card details Aug 21 (Reuters) - Australia's Origin Energy ORG.AX said on Friday a late-July data breach exposed specific customer information, including partial credit card and bank account details.
Here are some more details:
The country's top electricity and gas retailer said it had completed its review and confirmed that information such as credit card details and full bank account numbers were accessed after the data breach incident, which took place on 22 July.
The firm also contacted around 900,000 current and former customers whose details were accessed in the data breach.
Origin said the exposed information included some combination of name, address, date of birth, contact phone number as well as the last four digits of a credit card, or the last three digits of a bank account.
However, for around 60 customers, their full bank account numbers were accessed, Origin added.
The energy retailer said the incident remains subject to an ongoing criminal investigation and added that it continues to work closely with the Australian government and other agencies.
Shares of the firm traded largely flat as of 0203 GMT.
