Nordic seafood stocks fall amid rating cut, falling salmon prices

BUZZ-Nordic seafood stocks fall amid rating cut, falling salmon prices

Adds Pareto comments in bullets 3-4, updates share moves

** Shares in Norwegian seafood companies slide on Wednesday with analysts pointing to Pareto Securities' rating cut and falling salmon prices

** Pareto downgraded its recommendation for SalMar SALM.OL and Mowi MOWI.OL to ''hold'' from ''buy''

** While salmon prices are trending lower, marine ingredient costs surge, Pareto says, adding that this "unfavourable mix" might eat into 2027 margins

** The brokerage cuts FCA salmon price estimates for 2026 to about NOK 75/kg from NOK 80/kg, and for 2027 to about NOK 81/kg from NOK 86.4/kg

** Nordea analyst Herman Aleksander Dahl also flags low salmon prices of sub NOK 60/kg this week and increased salmon feed ingredients prices

** There are indications that salmon prices should fall further next week or in upcoming weeks, Norne Securities Mindaugas Čekanavičius adds

** Čekanavičius also highlights today's news on Mowi selling part of its Canadian operations, and adds there have been announcements of fish escape

** SalMar leads the losses, falling more than 7% to nearly bottom of STOXX .STOXX, while Mowi shares are down nearly 5%, tracking their worst day since March 2025

** Shares in Faroese peer Bakkafrost BAKKA.OL fall about 5%, their biggest daily drop since July 2025
