    THE GLOBE AND MAIL
    - The Ontario government's decision to invoke the
notwithstanding clause to deny 55,000 early childhood educators,
caretakers and other support staff in Ontario's public schools
the right to strike has led workers to walk off the job across
the province, closing schools in many places and leaving
families scrambling to arrange child care.
    - The board of South Africa's Gold Fields  GFIJ.J  will not
change its offer for Yamana Gold  YRI.TO  after a surprise rival
bid from Agnico Eagle  AEM.TO  and Pan American  PAAS.TO , it
said on Monday.

    - Members of the union representing GO Transit bus
operators, station attendants and other employees are on strike
from Monday after Metrolinx issued a statement saying the union
walked away from weekend negotiations and declined a request to
