    NEW YORK, May 27 (Reuters) - PBF Energy's PBF.N 160,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Torrance, California, experienced an unplanned flaring event, according to a community alert on Monday.
The Torrance Fire Department responded to an incident at the refinery after the facility experienced an unplanned flaring event, according to an earlier alert. 

    In a separate follow-up alert, authorities said all units have cleared the scene of the incident at the Torrance Refining Company, while the refinery continues to experience the unplanned flaring event and no offsite impact has been reported.
  
The flaring was due to a leak at one of the hydrotreater units, a person familiar with the matter said, adding production was likely impacted.
Fuel prices have soared across the country since the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began in late February. The Strait of Hormuz has been closed, blocking nearly a fifth of global oil flows. Motorists in California now pay more than $6 a gallon for gasoline, the highest in the country.
The refinery produces key transportation fuels including gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel.
PBF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
