Polish watchdog finds labelling, fibre mix errors in children's clothes
Polish watchdog finds labelling, fibre mix errors in children's clothes GDANSK, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Poland's consumer watchdog said on Friday that inspections of children's clothes sold in stores had found widespread labelling errors and fibre mix mismatches, naming major retailers LPP LPPP.WA, Pepco PCOP.WA, Smyk and Coccodrillo among those reviewed.
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) and the Polish trade inspection authority checked 949 batches of clothing in the first half of 2026, with 113 tested in laboratories.
Labelling issues were identified in 188 batches, including use of non-compliant fibre names, inconsistent raw material lists between tags and websites, and misordered breakdowns of percentages.
Lab tests found fibre content discrepancies in 27 of the 113 batches examined, equal to 24%.
Checks covered 166 businesses, including producers, wholesalers and retailers, the regulator said.
Examples cited by UOKiK included items marketed as cotton-rich that were in fact dominated by polyester, such as a pyjama set declared to be 80% cotton that lab tests found to be entirely polyester.
Products found non-compliant in the first half of 2026 were withdrawn by inspected companies, which were told to correct the labelling and will bear the costs of laboratory testing, UOKiK said.
The regulators are continuing their inspections of children's clothing, it added.
