Wall Street's main indexes were flat on Wednesday as investors stepped onto the
sidelines ahead of the Federal Reserve's highly anticipated first interest rate
cut in more than four years, with bets favoring a 50-basis-point reduction.  .N 
    
    At 11:44 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was down 0.12% at
41,555.40. The S&P 500  .SPX  was down 0.15% at 5,626.23 and the Nasdaq
Composite  .IXIC  was down 0.02% at 17,624.485.
