RUSSIAN CONSULATE IN POLAND

Poland summoned the Russian ambassador and said it would close the Russian consulate in Krakow after evidence showed Moscow was responsible for a huge fire that almost completely destroyed a Warsaw shopping centre in 2024.

Russia denied any involvement in the arson attack and accused Poland of Russophobia.

PKO BP PKO.WA

Poland's biggest bank PKO BP PKO.WA posted a 20.8% year-on-year rise in its first-quarter net profit due to improved core business income.

ZABKA ZAB.WA

Polish convenience store chain Zabka ZAB.WA reported a 15% year-on-year rise in its first-quarter core earnings late on Monday, driven by network expansion and solid sales growth.

BANK MILLENNIUM MILP.WA

Polish Bank Millennium MILP.WA wants to neutralize the negative impact of falling interest rates with greater lending activity and acquiring new clients, Puls Biznesu daily reported.

ELECTRIC CARS

In April, Poles registered over 2,500 electric cars, twice as many as a year earlier. If this trend continues, there could be over a record 20,000 of them in 2025, Rzeczpospolita daily reported, citing data from the Polish Automotive Industry Association.
