Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index opened 0.91% higher on Tuesday.
*SHELL: Shell SHEL.L told Reuters on Tuesday it has challenged an arbitration outcome it lost against Venture Global, alleging Venture Global withheld information from Shell and the arbitration tribunal.
* HEADLAM: Headlam HEAD.L said on Tuesday that it was refocusing on independent contractors and retailers, while slashing loss-making revenue as part of plan to return to profitability.
*UK LABOUR MARKET: Britain's labour market cooled in the third quarter as wage growth slowed and the unemployment rate jumped, according to data on Tuesday.
*VODAFONE: Vodafone VOD.L on Tuesday upgraded its full-year outlook for both earnings and cash flow after it returned to top-line growth in Germany in the second quarter.
*HILTON FOOD: Hilton Food HFG.L said on Tuesday that profit growth is likely to be challenging, as the U.S. government shutdown has delayed the restart of production at a facility in Greece.
*OFWAT: Ofwat proposed an 11 million pound ($14.8 million) enforcement package against Wessex Water on Tuesday after finding the utility failed to adequately operate and maintain its wastewater network.
* DOWLAIS: Dowlais DWL.L said on Tuesday it expects its full-year adjusted revenue and operating margin to be towards the top end of its guided range.
* STANDARD CHARTERED: Standard Chartered STAN.L said on Tuesday it has appointed Jim Wang as the chief executive officer of its China Securities unit.
* SCG: SCG is exploring a sale at a valuation of as much as 800 million pounds ($1.07 billion), Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
* COMMODITIES: Oil prices dipped in Asian trade, copper prices climbed and gold extended gains to a near three-week high on Tuesday
