German culture official: MFE pledges to uphold ProSieben's editorial independence

BERLIN, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Germany's commissioner for culture said on Tuesday he was given MediaForEurope's (MFE) reassurance that takeover target ProSiebenSat.1 PSMGn.DE would keep its editorial independence and be able to strengthen its German broadcasting operations.

In a joint statement, Culture Commissioner Wolfram Weimer and MFE MFEB.MI CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi said they met in Berlin to discuss the German broadcaster.

     The remarks come as MFE, controlled by Italy's Berlusconi family, is set to secure control of ProSieben after Czech investment group PPF agreed to sell its stake.

Official results of MFE's ongoing offer will be published on September 4.
