Italy - Factors to watch on Sept. 2

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Tuesday.

ECONOMY

ISTAT releases July producer prices data (0900 GMT).

DEBT

Italy will soon leave the European Union's excessive deficit procedure as it is close to bringing its budget shortfall to 3% of gross domestic product (GDP), the president of the European Central Bank said on Monday.

Italy posted a state sector budget deficit of 100 million euros in August compared to a surplus of 6.46 billion euros in the same month last year, the Treasury said in a statement on Monday.

The Tuscan lender said on Tuesday it raised its bid for Mediobanca adding a cash component of 0,90 euros per share to its previously all-share proposal, in a move aimed at gaining full control of the merchant bank.

Banca Ifis has increased its stake in illimity to 95.398%, and will therefore initiate a squeeze-out procedure which will lead to the delisting of the digital bank on September 19, according to a statement.

Deutsche Bank raises its rating to 'buy' from 'hold' and raises the target price to 520 euros from 430 euros.

MFE-MEDIAFOREUROPE MFEB.MI

German culture minister Wolfram Wiemer is due to meet MFE Chief Executive Pier Silvio Berlusconi in Berlin on Tuesday as the TV group is set to take over German peer ProSiebenSat.1 PSMGn.DE, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

ProSiebenSat.1 said on Monday it had extended Chief Financial Officer Martin Mildner’s contract until 2029. A person familiar with the matter told Reuters that MFE was against the move. A spokesperson for MFE declined to comment.

(*) Final data on MFE's offer on the German group will be made public on September 4 but daily la Repubblica reported on Tuesday that the Italian broadcaster is likely to obtain at least 70% of ProSiebenSat's capital.

Advisors working on the merger with EI Towers worked throughout August as "there is confidence" that the deal will be finalised by the end of the year, with a meeting scheduled with the Economy Ministry in mid-September, daily la Repubblica reported on Tuesday.

ENI ENI.MI

Israeli energy investor Delek Group DLEKG.TA and Italy's oil and gas explorer Eni ENI.MI will sell about 2% of their stake in UK-listed Ithaca Energy ITH.L, a bookrunner said on Monday.

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

Sales of new cars in Italy fell 2.7% year-on-year in July, indicating continuing weak demand in the euro zone's third-largest economy. Market leader Stellantis bucked the trend, with sales up 2.4%, according to Reuters calculations.

Italy's antitrust authority is set to give its  green light in the coming days to the acquisition of a 24.8% share of the phone group by Poste, allowing the postal services company to appoint its own directors to the board of TIM, writes Il Sole 24 Ore.

Morgan Stanley on Tuesday raised its rating to "overweight" from "equal weight".

JUVENTUS JUVE.MI

The Turin club said on Monday it had agreed to loan Argentine forward Nico Gonzalez to Atletico Madrid for 1 million euros, with an option to buy the player outright for 32 million euros, subject to certain conditions during the current season.

(*) The club signed Belgian Loïs Openda on loan with a 3.3 million euro fee and an obligation to buy for 40.6 million euros. It also bought Kosovan winger Edon Zhegrova from Lille for 14.3 million euros.
