** Shares of smartphone chipmaker Qorvo QRVO.O jump 9.8% to $101.18 in premarket trading; among top gainers on S&P 500 index

** Stock poised to open at highest level in nearly a year if gains hold

** Skyworks Solutions SWKS.O, which supplies radio frequency chips to Apple AAPL.O, held talks in recent months to buy rival Qorvo, The Information reports on Tuesday

** SKWS shares are down 2.3% at $74.13 premarket

** Six of 27 brokerages rate QRVO "buy" or higher, 17 "hold" and four "sell" or lower; their median PT is $95 - LSEG data

** Up to Monday's close, stock had risen 31.8% YTD, compared with a 22.4% increase in the Nasdaq index .IXIC
