European defence stocks rise as Ukraine peace talks unclear

** Shares in European defence companies up as the prospect of peace talks to end Russia's war in Ukraine seemed further away

** It is unclear if and when the talks would happen after Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin will not go to Turkey and named a lower-level team to attend the talks

** "The talks appear to be more of a pipe dream," Stefan Maichl from LLBW says, linking the moves to the developments on peace talks

** Shares in Germany's Hensoldt HAGG.DE, Rheinmetall RHMG.DE, Renk R3NK.DE rise between around 6% and 7%

** Sweden's Saab SAABb.ST and Italy's Leonardo LDOF.MI both up around 4%

** An index of aerospace and defence companies .SXPARO up around 2%
