** Shares of C4 Therapeutics CCCC.O rise about 8% to $3.13 premarket

** Biotech firm says it signed a collaboration with Swiss drugmaker Roche ROPC.S to develop new cancer drugs in a deal with potential payments of more than $1 billion

** Adds that it will receive $20 million upfront and is eligible for milestone payments and royalties tied to partnership's success

** To work with Roche on drugs that break down harmful proteins linked to cancer, aiming to tackle hard‑to‑treat tumors - CCCC

** Adds that Roche will lead testing and eventual commercial launch, C4 to designs drug candidates

** Deal builds on partnership between that began in 2016

** As of last close, stock up ~52% YTD
