23 November 2021
MPLF's Estimated NAV increased 2.19% in October marking the 18th monthly
increase since April 2020
The net asset value ("NAV") of Marble Point Loan Financing Limited ("MPLF") as
at the close of business on 29 October 2021 is as follows:
Share class October 2021 NAV per Ordinary Share ((1)) September 2021 NAV per Ordinary Share ((1)) Monthly Change in NAV per Share ((1))
Ordinary Shares USD 0.7778 USD 0.7836 USD (0.0058)
Performance
· MPLF's estimated NAV total return was 2.19% in October, compared
to the total return of the Credit Suisse Leveraged Loan Index of 0.24%.
· Secondary loan prices were little changed in October, as
sustained new issue CLO formation and retail fund inflows absorbed high new
issue loan volumes.
· MPLF has continued to outperform relevant benchmarks over the
past year, delivering a cumulative NAV return of 138.6% since March 2020
compared to 24.2%, 27.7% and 82.7%, respectively, for the CSLLI, ICE BAML High
Yield Index and S&P 500 for the same period.
· Quarterly distributions received by MPLF from its portfolio
holdings totalled approximately $13.1 million in October, or 6.4 cents per
share outstanding. This compares to the $10.4 million total reported for Q3
2021, and represents the highest quarterly distribution total since inception
for the fund.
· As at 31 October 2021, none of MPLF's investment vehicles had
exposure to GTT Communications, the sole S&P/LSTA index constituent that
defaulted in October. Due to other defaults rolling off the calculation, the
index's lagging 12-month default rate by notional amount decreased to 0.20%.
This is the lowest lagging 12-month default rate for the Index since December
2011.
Market
· The CSLLI delivered a 0.24% return in October. The average
indicative bid price of the CSLLI advanced to 98.53% at 31 October from 98.42%
at 30 September, however when excluding defaults the average indicative bid
price declined by 0.07%. The weighted average indicative bid price of MPLF's
underlying loans declined to 98.78% at 31 October from 98.91% at 30 September.
· During October 39 new issue CLOs totalling $19.2 billion were
priced. This is the second highest monthly total on record, only surpassed by
the August 2021 tally. In addition to New Issue, 20 CLO refinancings
totalling $8.6 billion and 32 CLO resets totalling $12.9 billion priced during
the month according to S&P/LCD.
· Institutional loan volume totalled $50.0 billion in October
according to S&P/LCD. M&A related loan issuance remained strong at
$31.4 billion during the month, raising the year-to-date M&A loan issuance
total to $283 billion. This exceeds the prior full-year record of $275
billion from 2018. M&A related deals generally represent new money in
the market, as compared to refinancing related issuance.
· Retail loan funds experienced an inflow of approximately $3.7
billion in October, representing the eleventh consecutive month of inflows, as
reported by J.P. Morgan.
· Since the end of October, the average indicative bid price of the
CSLLI has increased by 0.06% to 98.59% (as at 18 November 2021).
Investment
· Marble Point has continued to capitalize on receptive CLO
liability markets to unlock value in existing financing vehicles, and
structure new investments with return profiles consistent with the fund's
return objectives.
· During the month MPLF invested an incremental $1.0 million in a
loan accumulation facility ("LAF") in support of the continuing ramp of assets
related to the future issuance of Marble Point CLO XXIII. The total MPLF
investment in this LAF at the end of October was $4.0 million. Supported by
this and third party equity capital, the total amount of ramped assets in the
LAF was $225.6 million as at 31 October 2021.
· During the month Marble Point priced a reset of Marble Point CLO
XVI ("MP16"), in which MPLF holds $23.8 million notional of the equity
tranche. The reset extends the reinvestment period by five years and
tightened the weighted average cost of debt by approximately 27 basis points
from L+210 to L+183. Additionally, the reset upsized the target par amount
of the transaction by $25 million.
