The following factors could affect Italian markets on Wednesday.

    POLITICS
    Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been placed under
judicial investigation over the release a Libyan police officer
wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes
against humanity and war crimes.
    She is under no obligation to resign, and being placed under
investigation in Italy does not imply guilt, nor mean that
formal charges will necessarily follow.
    
    ECONOMY
    ISTAT releases January consumer and business confidence data
(0900 GMT) and December non-EU foreign trade data (1000 GMT).
    
    DEBT
    Treasury sells 6.5 billion euros new 6-month BOT bills.
Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT.
    
    COMPANIES
    MEDIOBANCA  MDBI.MI , MONTE DEI PASCHI  BMPS.MI 
    Italian bank Mediobanca on Tuesday rejected a takeover offer
by state-backed rival Monte dei Paschi di Siena, saying a tie-up
would be detrimental to its shareholders because it lacked any
strategic and financial rationale.
    The consultation pact between some Mediobanca shareholders
increased the percentage of share capital represented to 11.62%
from 11.40% after the Doris family holding Finprog brought into
the agreement a further 1.88 million shares, the bank said. 
    
    SAFILO  SFLG.MI  
    Full-year premilinary net sales in 2024 were down 2.3%
year-on-year to 993.2 million euros, the eyewear maker said on
Tuesday, blaming the end of the Jimmy Choo licence. Net of this
sales were slightly positive, driven by Europe but dragged down
by the North American market, it said. 
    
    DE LONGHI  DLG.MI  
    Preliminary full-year revenues for 2024 were up 13.7% at
almost 3.5 billion euros, and increased 17.7% in the fourth
quarter, the coffee machine maker said on Tuesday, confirming it
expects higher margins and solid cash generation.
