Finnish insurer Sampo tops fourth-quarter profit estimates (updated)

       Feb 6 (Reuters) - Finnish insurer Sampo  SAMPO.HE 
reported a fourth-quarter profit that beat market expectations
on Thursday, significantly supported by a strong performance in
the UK.
    Sampo, which in 2023 spun off its life insurance business to
become a pure-play property and casualty (P&C) insurer, said its
profit before tax fell 40% to 219 million euros ($227.50
million) in the quarter.
    That was above analysts' average estimate of 186 million
euros, a poll compiled by Vara Research showed.
    Sampo proposed a dividend of 1.70 euros for 2024, 5.6% lower
than the 1.80 euros it paid out last year. Analysts had expected
a payout of 1.76 euros per share.
