Finnish insurer Sampo tops Q2 earnings forecast

Aug 6 (Reuters) - Finnish insurer Sampo SAMPO.HE reported an unexpected rise in its second-quarter earnings on Wednesday, citing growth in attractive areas, disciplined underwriting, and efficiency gains.

Sampo said its profit before tax rose 18% from a year earlier to 526 million euros ($609 million) in the second quarter, while analysts polled by Vara Research had expected it to drop to 430 million euros.
