Generic drugmaker Sandoz files anti-dumping complaint about Chinese antibiotics imports

ZURICH, May 28 (Reuters) - Swiss generic drugmaker Sandoz SDZ.S filed a draft anti-dumping complaint with the European Commission over Chinese imports of the antibiotic ingredient amoxicillin, part of the penicillin family, the company said on Thursday.    
Sandoz says it has the only major remaining vertically integrated production network for penicillins in Europe.
Sandoz says Chinese market-distorting behaviours include sustained below-cost pricing, state subsidies and concentration of global capacity in China.
Chief Executive Richard Saynor said Europe risks losing antibiotic manufacturing capacity, saying that up to 90% of global antibiotic active ingredients are now produced outside Europe.
"Safeguarding antibiotic supply is not only a health policy issue, but a question of economic security and strategic trade policy. Europe must act now to safeguard independent supply in years to come," Saynor said in the statement.
