September 1 (Reuters) - The main U.S. stock indexes slipped on Tuesday, as elevated bond yields and higher oil prices kept investors at bay at the start of a historically weak month for equities. .N
     
At  11:30 EDT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was down 0.41% at 52,968.96. The S&P 500 .SPX was down 0.43% at 7,653.28, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was down 0.70% at 26,186.32.
