India asks sugar mills to ensure adequate supplies during festivals, keep prices 'reasonable' Sept 10 (Reuters) - The Indian government has asked sugar mills to ensure adequate supplies during the upcoming festival season, with domestic mills seeking to import nearly 800,000 tons of duty-free raw sugar, an official from the food ministry said on Thursday.
The government also directed these mills to sell sugar at "reasonable prices" and will continue to monitor prices closely as well as take corrective measures to keep rates stable, said Ashwini Srivastava, a joint secretary in the food ministry.
