** Shares of most automakers rise on higher August sales

** Nifty Auto index .NIFTYAUTO up 2.7%, with all stocks trading positive

** Car maker Tata Motors TAMO.NS gains 3.1% as overall sales for August rose ~2%

** TVS Motor Company TVSM.NS, which makes two-wheelers, rises 2.6% as sales jump 30%

** Eicher Motors EICH.NS, which makes the premium Royal Enfield motorcycles, rises 3%

** The co logged 55% surge in motorcycle sales, and 9.5% rise in sales in VECV, its trucks and buses joint venture with Volvo Group

** Bajaj Auto BAJA.NS gains 3.9% on 5% rise in Aug total sales

** Farm equipments maker VST Tillers Tractors VST.NS up 3.6%

** Passenger and cargo vehicle maker SML Isuzu SMLI.NS shares down 2.2% on 15% drop in sales
