Smurfit Kappa's London shares gain as earnings improve

** London-listed shares of Europe's largest paper packaging
producer Smurfit Kappa SKG.L SKG.I up 3.8% to 3,606 pence;
among top gainers on FTSE 100 .FTSE index
** Co's Q1 core profit fell sharply year-on-year but was
higher than the final quarter of 2023 when it had signalled a
dip in demand for packaging was at an end
** Q1 volumes also grow - 3% in Europe and 2% in the
Americas
** CEO says seeing an improving pricing environment
** SKG's results also sends London-listed peer Mondi
MNDI.L up 1.4%
** SKG up ~16% so far in 2024
