POLITICS
Italy denied on Wednesday that Israeli spyware maker Paragon
had cut ties with Rome following allegations that the Italian
government had illegally used its technology to hack the phones
of critics instead of criminals.
ECONOMY
Italian industrial output was much weaker than expected in
December, falling 3.1% from the month before and pointing to
deepening problems for the country's stagnant economy, data
showed on Wednesday.
DEBT
Treasury sells BTP bonds. Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT.
COMPANIES
TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) TLIT.MI
TIM said on Wednesday its board of directors had approved a
700 million euro ($726 million) sale of its submarine cable unit
Sparkle to a consortium led by Italy's Treasury.
Conference call scheduled for Thursday on preliminary FY
results and strategic plan update (1000 GMT).
BANCO BPM BAMI.MI
Banco BPM is proposing to pay more to buy fund manager Anima
Holding ANIM.MI , which it needs to control to reach its new
profit and payout targets as it tries to fend off a takeover by
bigger rival UniCredit CRDI.MI .
GENERALI GASI.MI /UNICREDIT CRDI.MI
UniCredit held 5.12% of Italy's biggest insurer Generali as
of February 7, a regulatory filing showed on Wednesday.
ITALGAS IG.MI
Europe's biggest gas distributor Italgas is aiming to
complete its acquisition of domestic rival 2i Rete Gas by the
end of March or the beginning of April, its CEO Paolo Gallo said
on Wednesday.
