Southwest Airlines forecasts second-quarter profit below estimates as fuel costs soar

Corrects dateline to April 22, not April 23, with no changes to text

April 22 (Reuters) - Southwest Airlines LUV.N forecast second-quarter profit below analysts' expectations on Wednesday, as soaring jet fuel prices driven by the war in Iran push costs up and dent margins.

The Texas-based carrier expects profit per share in the range of $0.35 to $0.65 for the April-June quarter, the mid-point of which is lower than analysts' expectations of a 55 cents profit, according to data compiled by LSEG.
