CORRECTED-Spire Healthcare extends Toscafund takeover deadline for fourth time (Aug 6) Corrects August 6 story to say takeover deadline is August 21, not August 12
Aug 6 (Reuters) - Britain's Spire Healthcare SPI.L said on Thursday the deadline for Toscafund Asset Management to make a formal takeover offer for the private hospital operator had been extended for a fourth time, to August 21 from August 6.
Here are some details:
Toscafund tabled its 250 pence per share proposal on May 14, a 66% premium to Spire's closing price the previous day, valuing the company at about £1 billion ($1.35 billion).
A successful deal would give Toscafund, already Spire's second-largest shareholder, control of Britain's largest provider of hip and knee operations, at a time when record NHS waiting lists have fueled demand for private healthcare.
The asset manager built a nearly 11% stake in Spire while opposing Ramsay Health Care's RHC.AX 250 pence per share proposal in 2021. It has now made a bid at the same price.
Shares in the company were up about 1% at 234.5 pence.
In July, Spire announced that chair Ian Cheshire would step down and be succeeded by insider Debbie White.
