POLITICS
The case of an Italian journalist being held in Iran is
"complicated", but Rome hopes to bring 29-year-old Cecilia Sala
home quickly, Italy's foreign minister said on Saturday.
ECONOMY
The Italian Senate on Saturday passed the government's
deficit-cutting 2025 budget, giving parliament's final approval
to the package which becomes law just ahead of an end-year
deadline. As part of it, next year's fiscal deficit is aimed to
fall to 3.3% of gross domestic product (GDP) from a targeted
3.8% in 2024.

The Italian energy group said on Saturday it had
successfully started production of Phase 2 from the Baleine
field. This will help it increase production in the Cote
d'Ivoire's offshore to 60,000 barrels of oil per day and 70
million cubic feet of associated gas, equivalent to 2 million
cubic metres.
UNICREDIT CRDI.MI
Goldman Sachs held a 5.78% stake in the bank as of Dec. 18,
up from 0.87% on Dec. 13, with most of the increase in
derivatives, Italy's market watchdog CONSOB said in a filing on
Friday.
MONTE DEI PASCHI BMPS.MI
The Tuscan lender said on Friday it had co-opted five new
board members to replace those who resigned on Dec. 18. The new
directors include Alessandro Caltagirone, the son of Italian
tycoon and Monte dei Paschi investor Francesco Gaetano
Caltagirone.
POSTE ITALIANE PST.MI
The Treasury's planned sale of a 14% stake of the Italian
post office, probably won't take place before April, daily La
Stampa reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.
The Treasury had originally planned the sale for 2024, and
then pushed it back to January, before the latest delay.
JUVENTUS JUVE.MI
Fiorentina snatched a 2-2 draw at Juventus in Serie A on
Sunday thanks to a late stunner from forward Riccardo Sottil,
condemning the hosts to yet another draw after Khephren Thuram
scored twice for them.
LAZIO LAZI.MI
The Rome team drew 1-1 with Atalanta at the Olympic Stadium
on Saturday, ending the Serie A leader's 11-match winning
streak.
