POLITICS

Italy believes that external military action is not the way to end totalitarian regimes, though it considers legitimate defensive moves in the event of hybrid attacks against a country's security, as in the case of state entities that promote drug trafficking, the office of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Saturday after the U.S. attacked Venezuela and deposed its long-serving President Nicolas Maduro.

(*) Meloni spoke by phone with Venezuela's opposition leader Maria Corina Machado about prospects for a peaceful, democratic transition in the South American country, the prime minister's office said late on Sunday.

(*) Italy posted a
state sector budget
 deficit of 125.5 billion euros ($147.26 billion) in 2025 compared to a deficit of 125.08 billion euros in 2024, the Treasury said in a statement on Friday.

(*) The Italian energy group had 2.3 billion euros in receivables, as of June 30, from the Venezuelan state-owned company, Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), la Repubblica reported on Monday.

The group is closely monitoring the evolution of the situation in Venezuela following the U.S. capture of Maduro, an Eni spokesperson said on Saturday adding there were no impacts on operations, which were proceeding regularly.

FERRARI RACE.MI

Exor, the Agnelli family's investment company, and Piero Ferrari, the car maker's second largest investor and founder's son, have extended their shareholders' agreement governing the Italian luxury sportscar maker, they said on Saturday.

STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

Registrations of new cars in Italy fell by 2.12% last year to 1.53 million units with Chinese brand BYD 002594.SZ performing strongly, data showed on Friday. In December, new car registrations rose 2.2% year-on-year, the transport ministry said. Sales of Stellantis' brands fell 5.5% in December and were down nearly 8% in the full year, Reuters calculations showed.

MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA BMPS.MI

The board is proposing to reduce to the legal minimum of 5%, from 10%, the share of profits allocated to the legal reserve and to eliminate the statutory reserve from its by-laws to allow higher dividend payments, Monte dei Paschi said in a document ahead of the shareholder vote on by-laws changes. The bank cited its improved financial position and its targets of a return on tangible equity of 14% and a payout ratio of up to 100%.

(*) Morgan Stanley initiated on Monday its coverage on the stock with an 'Equal weight' rating and a 10.4-euro target price.

Morgan Stanley cut on Monday its recommendation on the stock to 'Underweight' from 'Equal Weight', raising its target price to 14 euros from 13.3 euros.

Morgan Stanley initiated on Monday its coverage on the stock with an 'Overweight' rating and a 13.9-euro target price.

JUVENTUS JUVE.MI

The Serie A club said on Friday it had named Marco Ottolini as its new sporting director.

Juventus's Serie A title hopes were dealt a hammer blow when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by relegation battling Lecce on Saturday, with the hosts coming from behind but failing to win after Jonathan David had a penalty saved.

First-half goals from Leonardo Spinazzola and Amir Rrahmani helped Napoli claim a 2-0 victory at Lazio on Sunday in a heated contest that featured three red cards.

ELES SEMICONDUCTOR EQUIPMENT ELES.MI

Xenon's full voluntary buyout offer on Eles Semiconductor Equipment ordinary shares starts; ends on February 6.
