The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

    POLITICS
    (*) A nationwide strike on Friday is expected to force the
cancellation of flights, bus and underground services, the
closure of some schools and reduced medical care, in a protest
by two of the country's largest unions against the government's
budget plans.
    
    DEBT
    SCOPE credit ratings agency reviews Italy's sovereign debt
rating.
    
    ECONOMY
    ISTAT releases September industry sales data (0900 GMT);
November CPI flash data (1000 GMT); October non-EU foreign trade
data (1100 GMT).
    
    COMPANIES
    UNICREDIT  CRDI.MI , BANCO BPM  BAMI.MI 
    (*) A spokesperson for Italy's second largest bank denied 
that its bid for smaller rival Banco BPM would lead to 6,000
layoffs as had been suggested Banco BPM's chief executive
Giuseppe Castagna, Italian news agencies reported on Thursday.
    (*) Unicredit CEO Andrea Orcel will go to Paris this weekend
to meet the CEO of French peer Credit Agricole to discuss
Unicredit's takeover bid for Banco BPM  BAMI.MI , daily Il
Messaggero reported on Friday.
    (*) European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, asked
in a Financial Times interview about Unicredit's bid for
Germany's Commerzbank, said she preferred not to comment on the
case in question but that in general cross-border mergers are
beneficial if they produce added value.

    Talks aimed at an acquisition by the Italian media company
of Turin-based publishing house Lattes have broken down, daily
Il Sole 24 Ore wrote on Friday.

    The Italian soccer club's perfect start to the Europa League
was ended by a 0-0 home draw with Bulgaria's Ludogorets on
Thursday.

    Rome, "G7 meeting of the Parliamentary committees for the
oversight of intelligence services" ends; on Friday expected
attendees at final session include National Cybersecurity Agency
(CAN) Director General Bruno Frattasi (1045 GMT).
        Rome, farmers lobby Coldiretti ends 22nd edition
"Agriculture and Food Forum" (0830 GMT); on Friday expected
attendees include Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
  
    Rome, Italian farmers' association CIA holds annual meeting
public session "Agriculture at the crossroads: more value to
those who produce" with Agriculture Minister Francesco
Lollobrigida, Economy Deputy Minister Maurizio Leo (0830 GMT).
