March 4 (Reuters) - March 4 (Reuters) - Danish provider of turnkey AC/DC cable solutions NKT NKT.CO has signed its biggest ever contract for a single cable project.
The contract is for NKT to deliver the high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) power cable system for Eastern Green Link 3, a planned electricity transmission link designed to move large amounts of power between northeast Scotland and eastern England.
The contract is with a joint venture between National Grid Electricity Transmission and SSEN Transmission
Value of contract is "more than" EUR 2.2 billion ($2.55 billion)
NKT will design, manufacture, and install a 525 kV HVDC cable system, including onshore and offshore sections.
The route is about 680 km long
EGL3 is described as the UK's largest investment of its kind in electricity transmission, aimed at boosting grid resilience and efficiency
The 525 kV HVDC connection is intended to move renewable power efficiently from the North of Scotland to demand centres in the South
The project is expected to help provide more affordable, reliable, low-carbon electricity for up to around 2 million UK homes and businesses
