TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES
As part of the Share Repurchase Programme announced on 11 November 2016, and under the Irrevocable Agreement with Morgan Stanley & Co. International Plc announced on 5 July 2017, SSE plc (the "Company") confirms that a total of 4,837,245 shares were purchased for cancellation between 6 July and 1 August 2017 under the Irrevocable Agreement.
The Company confirms that it has no unpublished price sensitive information, and has resumed its Share Repurchase Programme. On 22 August 2017, the Company purchased (through Morgan Stanley & Co. International Plc) a total of 165,003Ordinary Shares of nominal value 0.50 each in the capital of the Company. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. As at the date of this announcement, the Company holds 165,003 ordinary shares in treasury and has 998,786,657 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).

These share purchases form part of the Company's existing Share Re-purchase Programme, details of which were announced on 11 November 2016. In respect of the share buy-back programme, which will operate until not later than 31 December 2017, any acquisitions will be effected within certain pre-set parameters, and in accordance with the Company's general authority to repurchase shares and Chapter 12 of the UK Listing Rules.
