European chip stocks slide after Wall Street rout
BUZZ-European chip stocks slide after Wall Street rout ** European semiconductor stocks fall sharply in early trade, tracking overnight weakness in U.S. chip names
** The Europe semiconductor basket is broadly lower, with Dutch chip-equipment heavyweight ASML ASML.AS down 3.8% and ASM International ASMI.AS falling 4.3% at 0737 GMT
** BE Semiconductor BESI.AS drops 4.1%, Soitec SOIT.PA loses 4.2%, Infineon IFXGn.DE falls 4.6%, Aixtron AIXGn.DE sheds 5.1%, STMicroelectronics STMPA.PA declines 5.6%, Siltronic WAFGn.DE drops 5.9%, and AMS-Osram AMS2.VI is down 5.6%
** "Sector rotation for sure," says Michael Roeg, analyst at Degroof Petercam
** "Data centre anxiety. It happened before. Yet semis share prices are now much higher than before so they are coming down much stronger," Roeg adds
** U.S. chip stocks weighed heavily on Wall Street on Thursday, with the Philadelphia SE Semiconductor Index down 4.3%
** The selloff came even after TSMC 2330.TW, a bellwether for global chip demand, posted a 77% jump in quarterly profit, highlighting how high expectations have become after a roughly 70% rally in the U.S. chip index so far this year
