Asmi Falls 8% As Upbeat Outlook Fails To Offset Ai: sector rout
BUZZ-ASMI falls 8% as upbeat outlook fails to offset AI-sector rout ** ASM International ASMI.AS drops 8% after it reported a beat on earnings and guidance weakened by a global selloff in AI-linked chip stocks
** The decline follows sharp losses in Asian semiconductor equities, with South Korea and Taiwan markets hit by concerns over the durability of AI-driven demand
** ASMI posts Q2 revenue of €1.00 billion ($1.14 billion), slightly above €996 mlnillion consensus, while Q3 revenue guidance of €1.1 bln euros is 5% ahead of consensus, Jefferies said in a note
** The broker calls the results "broadly in-line with expectations" but says the H2 outlook is above forecasts
** ASMI expects H2 revenue to rise more than 20% versus H1, underpinned by AI-related demand
** KBC securities says the results "raise the bar for 2027" but cautions that the market is "looking beyond 2027" and may be extrapolating today's "favourable AI-driven demand environment"
** ASMI's 8.1% drop is the steepest among major European peers: Soitec SOIT.PA falls 4.7%, BE Semiconductor Industries BESI.AS loses 3.3%, ASML ASML.AS declines 3.1% and Aixtron AIXGn.DE is down 2.1%
