STOXX GETS TECH SUPPORT; FTSE SUBDUED WITH EYES ON STARMER
European shares edge lower on Monday with gains in technology stocks helping cushion broader weakness as semiconductor momentum from Asia carries over. The region-wide STOXX 600 index is down 0.1%.
Gains in Infineon IFXGn.DE, BE Semi BESI.AS, STMicro STMPA.PA and sector heavyweight ASML ASML.AS keep the STOXX Technology .SX8P index near 26-year highs hit last week, up more than 1%.
Construction .SXOP, autos .SXAP and retail .SXRP lead decliners in Europe, down around 0.8%, while travel .SXTP edges higher as airlines gain following a renewed takeover approach for EasyJet EZJ.L.
Around 60% of the STOXX is in the red.
The FTSE 100 .FTSE is subdued, with a softer pound offering limited support as investors watch political developments. Speculation is mounting Prime Minister Keir Starmer could soon outline a timetable for his departure.
