Dec 9 (Reuters) - Alcon ALCC.S has lifted its offer to acquire medical technology firm Staar Surgical STAA.O to $1.6 billion, it said on Tuesday, raising the level of the bid and reducing related payments to Staar executives.
The deal would involve Alcon purchasing Staar shares for $30.75 per share in cash. Its original offer, agreed in early August at a price of $1.5 billion, had faced strong resistance from Staar shareholders.
Shares of STAAR Surgical were up 10.4% to $25.6 in premarket trading.
