Recasts with details from press conference, share performance

SAO PAULO, April 30 (Reuters) - Brazilian pulp maker Suzano SUZB3.SA expects solid demand for its main product in the coming months, the firm's chief executive said on Thursday, even as Suzano posted a 6% decline in its first-quarter core profit that missed market forecasts.

CEO Joao Alberto de Abreu told a press conference that Suzano, the world's largest pulp producer, plans to raise prices by different amounts across its regions, citing geopolitical tensions in its markets.

PULP DEMAND REMAINS STRONG

Abreu said Europe and the United States are showing stronger demand, likely due to merchandise flow changes and restocking movements.

In
April
, Suzano hiked pulp prices in Europe and North America by $50 per metric ton, but opted for a lower $20 increase in Asia.

Abreu said the company was being more cautious about price hikes in Asia after successful hiking campaigns in Europe and North America.

INVESTORS BEARISH ON Q1 RESULTS

Investors reacted negatively on Thursday to Suzano's earnings report, as the firm reported a weaker net revenue in the quarter despite higher pulp sales volume.

Earnings ere hit by a stronger Brazilian currency that diluted its export revenues.

Suzano's Sao Paulo-listed shares fell up to 4%, making it the biggest loser in the benchmark stock index Bovespa .BVSP, which was up 1.5%.

JPMorgan's analysts said in a note they expect the "challenging quarter" to cause downward changes in consensus estimates.
