Decentralized clinical trials still a hot theme in 2022 - Baird

** Virtual or decentralized clinical trials (DCT) will take
center stage in 2022, with COVID-19 acting as catalyst for
adoption of hybrid models of clinical development which combine
traditional tools and processes with decentralized means,
brokerage Baird says
** New trial initiations with DCT components jumped from 673
in 2020 to 1,011 in 2021 – and another 1,300 trials will launch
with DCT components in 2022, brokerage says, citing research
firm GlobalData
** DCT should foster improved patient experience,
recruitment, retention and overall diversity in clinical trials
- Baird
** Strong revenue outlooks of contract research firms
coupled with near-universal expectations for long-term margin
enhancement would suggest that investors need not fret the
impact of DCTs on financials any time soon - brokerage
** As a result, brokerage says it expects continued private
investment in DCT service providers like Medable, IPOs as well
as rapid consolidation between DCT oriented specialists and
larger contract drug developers
