Syros jumps on European 'orphan drug' tag for blood disorder therapy

** Drug Developer Syros Pharmaceuticals Inc's shares
 SYRS.O  rise 22.8% at $1.08 premarket
    ** SYRS says the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended
a "orphan drug" designation for its experimental drug
tamibarotene to treat myelodysplastic syndrome, a type of blood

    ** Earlier in the year, the U.S. FDA also granted orphan
drug designation to tamibarotene
    ** The orphan drug status is given to drugs which treat rare
conditions and are protected through a series of government
incentives once on market  
    ** Up to Wednesday's close stock down ~73% YTD
