Italy - Factors to watch on May 20

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

    In light of the regulatory hurdles put in place by the
European Central Bank on exceeding a 20% stake in the lender's
share capital, Leonardo Del Vecchio could keep his holding in
the lender below the threshold and gradually reduce it at a time
of share price appreciation, Il Corriere della Sera daily
reported on Friday citing market speculations. 
    The paper added that, alternatively, the Italian
entrepreneur could place part of the shares with a banking
partner that could then increase the stake above 20%.
    Del Vecchio, who has been critical of the bank's top
management, is likely to present his own list of directors when
the board will be renewed at a shareholders' meeting in October
2023, daily La Repubblica reported.

    In the next weeks, two new "mid-size" companies could join
Crédit Agricole  CAGR.PA , Axa  AXAF.PA , Generali  GASI.MI  and
 Allianz  ALVG.DE  in the race to become the next partner of
Banco BPM for the lender's life insurance business, MF dialy
reported on Friday.

    The Norwegian sovereign wealth fund will vote against the
remuneration report at the May 24 shareholders' meeting, MF
daily reported on Friday.

    The Italian merchant bank said on Friday that the deadline
to reach an agreement for Engineering's purchase of a 43% stake
in consulting firm BE  BESTE.MI  has been further postponed to
June 19.

    The financial software sector player has reached a deal with
payments group NEXI to speed up payments within industrial
supply chains. The accord "allows to reduce, almost zero, the
days of deferment," Piteco's Chief Executive Paolo Virenti told
Il Corriere della Sera.

The Italian diagnostics group said on Friday it had CE marked
its ARIES Flu A/B & RSV+SARS-CoV-2 Assay, a molecular panel test
designed to detect the four most common respiratory viruses and

    Turin, Council of Europe holds 132nd Session 'Comittee of
Ministers', Foreign ministers discuss response to the aggression
of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (0730 GMT), followed
by news conference with Italian Foreign Ministers Luigi Di Maio,
Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, Council of Europe
Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric (1230 GMT).
    Turin, Stellantis  STLA.MI  holds news conference to present
Lancia unit strategic plan "Italian Elegance that lasts and
enchants" with Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano (0900 GMT); followed
