WALL STREET EQUITIES CLIMB AFTER INFLATION DATA
Wall Street's three main indexes are gaining ground on Thursday after July's latest inflation reading.
Most of the S&P 500's 11 major industry indexes were advancing with technology .SPLRCT , real estate .SPLRCR and communication services .SPLRCL leading the charge with gains of 1% or more. The biggest decliner is energy .SPNY, which is down more than 1%.
Big drags from individual stocks are from Cisco Systems CSCO.O, off about 7%, after its revenue forecast for 2027 didn't meet lofty investor expectations, and Tapestry TPR.N, which is tumbling 15% after it forecast disappointing annual sales growth.
Technology is by far the biggest sector boost with both chips and software gaining. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index .SOX and the S&P 500 Software and Services Index .SPLRCIS are both up more than 1.5%. The S&P growth index .IGV is up 0.8%, surpassing a roughly 0.5% advance in the S&P 500 value index .IVX.
