      Tate & Lyle PLC (the Company) has been informed that today the       following Directors have purchased ordinary shares of 25 pence each in       the capital of the Company (Shares) at a purchase price of 545.85       pence per share:

      * 20,000 of these Shares will be registered in the names of Mr Ahmeds       children (who are connected persons). Mr Ahmed has also transferred a       total of 114,000 Shares to his two children as a gift today.    
      The transactions took place in London.
