INDIA STOCKS-Indian shares open higher led by IT; Reliance results eyed Updates for markets open
July 17 (Reuters) - Indian shares opened higher on Friday, led by information technology stocks after Tech Mahindra's quarterly revenue beat, while investors awaited earnings reports from several heavyweight companies after market hours.
The benchmark Nifty 50 .NSEI rose 0.38% to 24,166.50, while the BSE Sensex .BSESN added 0.47% to 77,543.1 by 9:16 a.m. IST.
Oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance Industries RELI.NS rose 1.1% ahead of its results after the market closes. Top private lenders HDFC Bank HDBK.NS and ICICI Bank ICBK.NS rose 0.7%, with their earnings due over the weekend.
Eight of the 16 major sectors logged gains. The broader small-caps .NIFSMCP100 and mid-caps .NIFMDCP100 lost 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively.
IT index .NIFTYIT rose 2%. Tech Mahindra TEML.NS gained 3% after it topped quarterly revenue expectations, helped by growth in its manufacturing segment and a weaker rupee.

Brent crude LCOc1 rose 1% to $85 a barrel after the United States and Iran stepped up attacks across the Gulf. O/R
