Thai CP Group appoints ex-Telenor head to lead telco business

BANGKOK, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Thai agro-industrial
conglomerate Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group appointed former chief
executive of Norway's Telenor ASA TEL.OL , Sigve Brekke, as
head of its telecommunications and digital business, the Thai
firm said on Thursday.
The announcement comes two years after CP Group's mobile
unit True Corporation TRUE.BK merged with Telenor's Thai
business, Total Access Communication (DTAC), making it the
country's largest mobile provider.
Brekke will oversee "telecom and digital operations across
Thailand and Southeast Asia" starting in March, CP Group CEO

For nine years, Brekke was president of Telenor Group and
head of the company's Asia region, and CEO of DTAC in Thailand.
"In this era where AI is transforming consumers,
organisations, and society, I look forward to returning back to
Thailand and collaborating with CP Group’s talented team,” said
Brekke.
CP Group is one of the world's largest producers of animal
feed and livestock. It is owned by the billionaire Chearavanont
family, which Forbes ranked as the country's second-richest with
a net worth of $29 billion.
