(*) Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reacted on Tuesday to the conviction of French far right leader Marine Le Pen for embezzlement.
"No one who cares about democracy can rejoice at a ruling that strikes the leader of a major party and deprives millions of citizens of representation," she told daily Il Messaggero.

The postal service operator is considering having at least two of its representatives on the former Italian phone monopoly, daily MF reported on Tuesday. Poste's general manager Giuseppe Lasco is one of the possible candidates, the newspaper said.

Shareholders of Generali and the government are increasing pressure on the insurer's CEO, Philippe Donnet, to retreat from a proposed asset management partnership with France's BPCE's Natixis, daily La Stampa reported on Tuesday. Mediobanca, Generali's largest shareholder, and various players on the French side, have also expressed doubts about the deal, La Stampa added.
